Leo, an approximately 7-year-old Goldendoodle, passed away on December 8, 2019 after a battle with hemangiosarcoma. He was the rescue dog of Terry and Ernie Quatrani, adopted at Last Chance Ranch in 2017.
The third anniversary of taking possession would have been January 2020.
Leo, also known as The Doginator, The Dog of Dogs, and Velcro, was an 80-pound companion dog whose bark was worse than his bite–which he never did.
Leo liked walks in Camelot Park, car rides with his head out the window, strolls in Ocean City, NJ, cheese, pasta, dental chews and everyone who rubbed his tail-end.
His howling greetings whenever his owners returned from an absence were epic.
Leo was undefeated when it came to barking off the mailperson each and every day. He also turned back countless UPS and FedEx forays. Leo kept the backyard squirrel-free and eventually reached an accommodation with the local birds once he realized he could not fly. His personal best for destroying a chew toy was just under one minute
Leo was partly responsible for the Eagles’ Superbowl win in 2018, patiently accepting good luck rubs whenever the Birds had to make a play.
The day after Leo’s death, the Eagles began a four-game winning streak to reach the 2019-20 playoffs, no doubt in tribute to Leo.
His good luck also secured Ernie a publishing contract for Internal Lockdown (published in October 2018), and he was a valuable writing companion as Ernie spent hours completing a second novel or working on articles for Town and Country. Even though Leo mostly lay napping on the floor during writing sessions, his inspiration was a tangible force.
Leo is sorely missed by his “brothers” Michael, Stephen, and, especially, Matthew, who gave Leo bed privileges at night, and by his Uncle Paul and Aunt Florie, Aunt Judi, Mom-mom Q, nephews Paul, Jake and Mark, and “Aunt” Vicki.
