The Superbowl should have afforded an opportunity to escape the nightmare that is MAGA, but no. As an Eagles fan, I just wanted to watch the game and ignore as much extracurricular noise as possible. I was hoping that Number 47 was not going to the Super Bowl.
Now we will probably be painfully exposed to shots of him basking in adulation.
Although I’m hoping that Eagles fans won’t participate.
Before the election, a couple of red-capped, suit-wearing MAGAs showed up at a game at the Linc and waved and paraded up and down the steps near our section. They were mostly booed by the Eagles faithful.
Who will get more face time? Travis Kelce’s girlfriend and Number 47 critic Taylor Swift or Number 47? Will he go out for the coin flip? MUTE Present the trophy? MUTE Maybe we will even be held hostage to an interview, the game is on Fox after all. MUTE I just hope it isn’t a split screen while the game is being played.
We know that Number 47 is not an Eagles fan. They snubbed a White House visit after winning the Super Bowl in 2017. I was so proud! 🦅
There are many good reasons why no other president has attended a Super Bowl. This has probably created a security nightmare for agencies such as Homeland Security and the FBI, now led by amateurs. Just think of the inconvenience being caused trying to get Number 47’s entourage into the stadium.
And how about the weak-kneed NFL removing “End Racism” from the end zones?
According to Yahoo!Sports: “The NFL said Tuesday (writer’s note: the same day it was announced that Number 47 was attending the game) that it would have stenciling only of the phrase ‘Choose Love.’ Sunday’s game will be the first Super Bowl since February 2021 at which ‘End Racism’ will not be in an end zone stencil.
“‘The Super Bowl is often a snapshot in time and the NFL is in a unique position to capture and lift the imagination of the country,’ [NFL spokesperson Brian] McCarthy said.
“He said the phrase is most fitting because of tragedies the country has endured in recent weeks.”
At least they didn’t replace it with “Make America Great Again.”
I’ve always loved the Eagles but hated the NFL
If this had been another non-Eagles Superbowl, I would have skipped it just because Number 47 is going.
There is no relief from the painful reality we are living.
But, Go Birds 🦅
